mr_flay is not alone in having a dead laptop. So has jamesb, as he & I discovered last night, followed by about 6h of data recovery work by yours truly. So beware, he might not be able to get to his email readily for a while.
While we looked for a new laptop for the boy Wills, I suggested that an Asus Eee might be a useful stand-in for a while. I've been trying to secure a cheap one on eBay for several days. This has led to the chap sending me texts with such contents as "Asus high?" and "Eee, bah gum?"
I confess I'd never thought of the former ("don't worry, Liam, you will"), but the latter I used as a subhead on an Inq piece ages ago. On a little hunting around, about a year ago.
Ed has now found and acquired himself a £700 MacBook Pro, which seems like a very good deal to me.
But while hunting for it, check out the last article comment to this one...
(As it happens, the commenter is a kook who regularly spams the Inq - and myself and its editor - with incomprehensible illiterate emails full of threats to take us to the FBI and whatnot. I get them because I once answered a semi-sane reader's letter from him, fool that I am. I'd never seen this one before, though!)
