Jun. 1st, 2005 02:12 amGood weekend. Friday, Vain gig & afterparty with
alyxzandrauk. Very welcoming, the rock crowd, but I fear I am not nearly metal enough. Especially in new teetotal form. Pleasant to see
childeric again - first time this year, I think.
Then Saturday - first long trip on a bike for a couple of years, nearly - up to Derby for the end of the Sproutlore Larger Event, which was a hoot, then off to Nottingham the next day for a very agreeable walk down by the river followed by a rather enjoyable party. Back to London Monday. Some 500 miles, mostly of rather scenic 'A' roads, as the outfit struggles to top 70mph and is really No Fun At All on motorways. Shattered and sore as a result, but it really blew some cobwebs away. Alas, there is a legacy from the riparian stroll - an insect bite to the face has resulted in a left eye puffed half-shut, so I am indoors, rebuilding PCs to run sundry Unices and hiding from the sun.
As I did last time, I've been testing my revamped & reinstalled (and sadly downgraded, to free up bits for a dedicated Solaris machine) Ubuntu box by doing some Wikipedia writing and editing. Technically-inclined readers who are too young to remember the days of MS-DOS might find my new article on the IBM PC Upper Memory Area informative - or indeed horrifying.
