[Geek] Wish me luck, I'm going in
Jan. 28th, 2005 02:29 amI've taken the plunge, told BT to stuff their line and signed up with Bulldog. (I'm outside the reach of UK Online's 8Mb offering.) 4Mb broadband instead of ½Mb, and factoring in the line rental, only £7/mth more than OneTel. And since my line's unbundled, I won't have to deal with BT any more. This makes me happy.
For now, though I have no voice service, OneTel's ADSL is still on. I will report back how the migration goes. It may be a week or two before my landline starts working again, though, I fear. I may also suddenly disappear altogether if BT cut off my line before the transfer.
In other news: I'm considering spinning off the geekier content of my LJ into a separate tech blog, possibly on LJ, possibly somewhere else. This is partly because I think it might be a useful advert for my IT writing. Thoughts? I'll keep the LJ on for its traditional purposes of whining about life and so on. Wouldn't want to tamper with hallowed tradition.
I haven't even /seen/ one yet but I am beginning to seriously want a Mac Mini. Well, actually, I want a dual G5, but that's firmly in the realms of fantasy, whereas a Mac Mini would cost only slightly more than I spent on snowboarding a couple of weeks ago. Which is to say, I can't afford it, but only just. I think instead I'll spend £50 or so on coaxing a bit more speed out of my venerable Beige G3 (ex
