I've been doing this online-discussion-communities thing for about 13y now - IOW, a *lot* longer than most of you lot. And I was doing Internet chat about 5-6y before that. 1 result of this is that I tend to use a lot of abbreviations. At first, when I found that most LJ types didn't understand them, I curtailed it, but now, I don't bother so much & I get asked less often - though still occasionally. Mind you, I have now gone out with someone who was born less than a year before I got my first email address. [F/X: creaks painfully in agèd fashion] Which is a bit scary. But hey.

I find them very useful, things like IMHO, IME, IOW, TTBOMK, AFAIK, AFAICR, IIRC, IIWY, IANAL, HTH, HAND, WGAF & URxAICM£5; then come the chat ones, like LOL, ROFL, [Helicopter], BRB, AFK, TTYS, TTYL, BBFN, TTFN, SYS & OMG; & there are the tech trade in-jokes, from BOFHs via Lusers to LARTs who are a PITA and won't RTFM resulting in PEBCAK errors, sometimes resulting in T|N>K. Recently I learned a new 1: FMTYEWTK or MTYEWTK.

But I /do/ like today's.

LTFG. (And no, it's not _Like the Finest Gold_.)

WTF are you on about, man? )

Head's distinctly better today, incidentally. Well enough to go and fix [livejournal.com profile] nolley's PC for him. Again. Well, actually watch it not need fixing, really, and remove Kazaa for him, which was the cause of thousands of popups and finally a crash.

Is there a modern equivalent of K++ or KLite for Windows, anyone?
