The Morning News is a bit like an Australian* version of the Onion, with a couple of differences.

It's not American and it is funny.

I particularly liked the walkthrough of the IKEA game for non-experts.

* EDIT: Thank-you, Graham...

Yes, that's what JASC really stands for.

I've just discovered that PaintShop Pro 7 & 8 can't handle TIFs that render fine in the GIMP on Linux and IrfanView on Windows. Apparently, the compression type is unsupported.

What used to be a lovely neat little tool in v3 and even in v4 was a handy, usable tool is now a sprawling monster app, a 53MB download no less, and yet it can't handle the compression formats of two free programs. What is JASC playing at?

Show of hands: anyone prefer PSP now to the way it used to be a few years back?

If you think it's got a bad case of feeping creaturitis, you might enjoy IrfanView. Tiny, blisteringly fast, free and despite that site's modest description, it's much more than a viewer. It can handle format conversion from a vast range of types, resizing, resampling and cropping, which is 95% of all I ever need from an image-editing app. Recommended.

This one is from Damn Fine Convention and is largely filched - as opposed to felched - from the files of the Fortean Times.

Hey, Cheese fan!

I am pleased to announce that RICHARD CHEESE & LOUNGE AGAINST THE MACHINE will be performing on Tuesday night, 3 February 2004 at THE GARAGE in LONDON!  We're playing in their upstairs lounge.

Thanks to all of our UK fans for helping us make this happen!

Tickets are on sale now, just visit www.iloverichardcheese.com and click on the tour schedule link.  PLEASE buy your tickets in advance, because they'll cost more at the door.
http://www.ticketmaster.co.uk/cgi/asp_events/byid.asp?event_id=18003792F846D00F&category=Music

We will be selling our TUXICITY CDs at the show, and RC and his band will be happy to sign autographs, pose for snaps, and sleep with your attractive sister.  So bring her with!

Now, since we're flying to London from the USA, we can't bring our musical instruments with us.  SO, we need your help!  We need to borrow an upright bass & a 250Watt bas amp!  If you know anyone who can hook us up, please email me at uk@iloverichardcheese.com .

We also need your recommendations for a hotel in London that is somewhat close to The Garage...we're looking for something safe, clean, and inexpensive. Maybe in Camden?

Thanks again for your kind support and we look forward to seeing you at the big gig!

We'll see you on 3 February!

RC

Excrutiatingly rare moblogging moment from Liam, here, brought to you by the power of Psion 5mx, Opera 3.42 and a Nokia 6310i with IRDA and GRPS.

In other words, I'm in the pub, posting this at great expense. Relatively.

Why?

Because I'm at the AnonC meet at the Cittie of Yorke and no other bugger is. I've bought a travelcard specially to come here and there's not a soul I recognise in the entire place.

Couldn't ANYONE be bothered?

I shall wander off to a pub with slightly more entertainment shortly, assuming no-one shows, but on the offchance that anyone's coming AND able to read this, you can tell me via 07939 087884.

Harrumph.

EDIT: Back home. [livejournal.com profile] drplokta tells me that there were 4 people, but all were gone by 9pm. I arrived at about 8:45 or so, so I probably just missed them. Ah, well...
