A silly game, prompted by a mention in Friends a while back.
How many US states can you name?
Don't bother posting your lists of states. It's too easy to cheat for me to make this an online quiz.
But make a list. I found it handy to use a spreadsheet, because then you can count & sort the list very easily.
I got 46 out of 50, but I missed a few, including some obvious ones, misidentified one city as a state, and didn't know that a couple of bits were actually independent states in their own right.
Yes, I know it's not very patriotic, but then, I'm not. I'd do the same for counties but the very definition of what constitutes an English county is very mutable. The numbers have changed a lot over history and are still subject to some interpretation - local government rules differ from postal counties, and so on. I mean, how many English counties are there? I'm English & I didn't know. I was unable to find an unambiguous answer, too.
But surely everyone knows that there are 50 states. So go on: name them! No cheating, no referring, no conferring.
