Bugger.
I have just blown up the hard disk in my test server by transplanting it into another box and connecting the power lead the wrong way round. The drive's Molex connector was broken and it allowed the polarised plug to fit upside down. Result: nasty smell and escape of magic smoke.
This means that I am now completely out of small IDE hard disks. I have lots of ~100MB ones, which are no use to anyone now, and a couple of spare 40Gs for my big RAID server, but nothing at all spare around the 1-2-3 up to 8GB mark, which is the ideal size for testing stuff out. I do, however, have a box of 8 dead 3.5" IDE drives. Most work a bit but have bad sectors. If anyone wants some dead drives, to take apart to play with the magnets or as ornaments or for loaner logic boards, whatever, give me a shout.
On the other hand, if you have any small PATA drives going spare - between one gig and say ten, though I'll certainly not refuse anything larger! - then do please let me know. I don't need 'em to be huge, modern multi-tens-of-gig things. Anything less than 10y old will probably do.
