Quite a lot of people responded to my earlier post about LJ's Jabber support.

So here's another one.

Did you know that you can let people without LJs read your friends-only LJ posts?

All they need is an OpenID.

If you don't have a LJ, Google "OpenID", pick a site, then go sign up for one.

Next, go to the journal of the person whose private stuff you seek permission to read. Make a comment - any comment - to a public post of theirs. As you do so, log in using your new OpenID. (Yes, you anonymous LJers, you do need to have at least a single public post for this to work.)

Now it's the LJer's turn. You click on the OpenID link on that person's post, and you'll get to a special limited userinfo page for the OpenID. BeFriend it as normal.

Now someone logging in to LJ with that OpenID can read your friends-locked posts.

Put OpenID into Wikipedia for more info. It can be used on all sorts of authenticated blogging sites and things these days. Any LJ is automatically an OpenID. If you're a member of LJ, you have one. This is a just a way for people who aren't a member of LJ to participate in the behind-the-curtains veiled world of private F/O LJs.
