Jun. 16th, 2006 02:41 amThe main thing at the moment is, of course,
scarlatti. I'm hoping there's some glimmer of a chance. If you don't know what's going on, go read:
dougs.
Last weekend was impoverished by an absence of
the_major (but I hope to see her this weekend at the ZZ9 Towel Picnic). I was torn on Saturday: I was invited to no less than three parties. This is normally enough to leave me at home quivering in indecision, but this time, a choice presented itself. On the one hand, there was
alexmc's do over in Leytonstone, about an hour and a half's travel away; on the other, there was a CIX/SF-fan do in Twickenham, some 2h away; and on the gripping hand, there was
avalon_bliss and
hythloday's do... In Colliers Wood, about 3min cycle ride away. Tough call. Sorry, Alex; sorry, Pete. And they even gave me a lovely big 19" monitor so that I can use the Linux PC in the front room from the sofa without squinting! Yay! Cheers, guys!
And lo, it was good! They've lived just up the road from me for nearly a year, I find this out through FreeCycle of all places, and it's taken me months to go visit. A bit poor, really.
Before that, though, since it was a lovely hot day and everything, I decided to do what any sensible person would, and... go for a really long run. I did a lap of all of Mitcham Common - to the edge of Croydon and back. Took me about 2h - it was so hot, I drank 1.5l of water & had to take a lot of breathers. Got loads of scratches, bites, stings and lashes on my legs, socks full of seeds and burrs, absolutely shattered and dripping with sweat. It was wonderful. It was two days before I could walk properly again.
Between that and the party, though, Sunday was a bit of a write-off...
