Well, not directly, but I'm interested to see that her employers, the Institute for War & Peace Reporting, have got a story listed on Slashdot. Brace webservers for impact, cap'n.
In other news: weekend was... mixed. Pleasant dinner on Friday - I was consulted for a recommendation of a veggie curry restaurant in the West End, noone had heard of the one I named - the Woodlands in Panton St. - but everyone was astounded by how good it was. Result. Then off to the Ben Crouch for a quick drinkie, which was pleasant, and then to Dead & Buried, which was a laugh.
Saturday, did nothing. Not so good, Al. I figured
miss_soap's picnic would be rained off; I was wrong. Bummer.
Sunday,
drpete's birthday drinkies in Stockwell. Effectively ruined for me by the presence of Certain People I'd rather never see again in a context far too small to ignore them. My mood has not recovered yet, 4 days later. Not a good day.
So I fled off to the New Dark Age gig up in Hoxton. Caught the end of Faetal - not impressed. Then Screaming Banshee Aircrew - better, but also not much taken. Then Devilish Presley, who were superb. Finally, the much-vaunted Deathboy, who I'd never seen before - and by whom I was left utterly cold. I don't understand the hype. So that was a bit of a damp squib, but hey, it was only a fiver, and I'd pay that to see DP again.
Since then, I've worked rather a lot, including building a new PC for
childeric tonight. It works, but the Athlon XP 2600+ processor runs at 166MHz x 12.5 instead of the 266 x 16 which its jumpers are set for. In fact, NONE of the jumper settings in the manual give the speeds they should, and many valid combinations don't work at all. It's very odd and very disappointing. Any hints or tips welcome.
