So I gave in to the nagging and went back to gothdom, and lo, it was good.

Friday night I spent in Walthamstow at [livejournal.com profile] bohemiancoast and [livejournal.com profile] malwen's do for [livejournal.com profile] green_amber and [livejournal.com profile] catabolism, and very pleasant it was too, also featuring [livejournal.com profile] the_gardener and [livejournal.com profile] headgardener. Most agreeable.

Saturday I cycled up to Wandsworth Park for [livejournal.com profile] marypcb and [livejournal.com profile] sbisson's engagement party. A pleasure it was too, even though I was racked by hayfever; seldom-seen faces included an impressively slimline [livejournal.com profile] tanais with [livejournal.com profile] elinor, plus Lizbet the Wonder Accountant and Dr Paul, and more familiar sights including [livejournal.com profile] spride, [livejournal.com profile] drpete, [livejournal.com profile] mmcpoland, [livejournal.com profile] tamaranth, [livejournal.com profile] ladymoonray & [livejournal.com profile] swisstone. Very civilised.

Went along to TPTMNBM on Saturday to meet [livejournal.com profile] mr_flay for his birthday dinner at Maison Touaregue, along with [livejournal.com profile] childeric, [livejournal.com profile] andyravensable, [livejournal.com profile] augeas & [livejournal.com profile] mouseboks, plus Ed's old school friend Kate who is, AFAIK, NOLJ. It was all jolly congenial. We all shared a couple of hookahs after the meal, which left us feeling very relaxed and mellow.

Dr Teflon was determinedly trying to drag Ed along to the Slime afterwards, but the charms of The Pub's lovely landlady Charlotte proved a greater attraction. She did allow me to store my bike upstairs to avoid dragging it along to the restaurant, however, which was terribly kind.

So Dr Simon and I set off to Islington, via The Pub to deposit Ed and collect bike. We even found a [livejournal.com profile] kitty_goth on the Victoria line. On debarking, I discovered to my horror, I had no bag, and thus, no Psion, no MP3 jukebox, no prescription sunglasses and various other expensive toys. I blame the hookahs. Various panic-stricken calls to sundry Victoria Line stations yielded no joy, and nor did calling Ed, who was still in the pub.

So I bought some water and a New Scientist and resigned myself to a long journey home and an expensive replacements-shopping exercise. The staff at Highbury were exceedingly helpful and considerate, but didn't seem too optimistic for its chances. They suggested I take the last northbound to Walthamstow (what, twice in one decade?) in case the bag turned up when the train reached the end of the line, but I observed that this would leave me stranded at the opposite side of London from even if it did, and I could always collect it the following day.

Then, just after the last train departed, Simon phoned to say that Kitty had reappeared and was quite certain I had no bag with me on the train. At this point, Ed also phoned, to say that they'd found the bag after all, but it was too late to go and get it and the pub was closed on Sunday, but it'd be there safely until Monday.

So there I was, stranded in Islington with no easy way home. What to do but Slime? I stashed the bike at Simon's, and with [livejournal.com profile] bootpunk too, we strolled down to the Angel.

And very pleasant it was too. I encountered quite a few people I seldom see any more, such as (in approximate order) [livejournal.com profile] purplestuart, [livejournal.com profile] nils, [livejournal.com profile] avalon_bliss, [livejournal.com profile] _whitenoise and [livejournal.com profile] bluehelen, enjoyed several natters, bopped around a bit and caught some of Nils' 2nd set before I started to flag and it was time to go. Yes, there was StuffTM after a while, but I ignored it and it ignored me and I was startlingly untroubled by it.

I decadently took a cab up to Highbury, reclaimed my bike, rode down to Trafalgar Square - and an N155 promptly appeared. The driver of which then refused me admission with my fully-folded bike. "It's health and safety, innit?" he lied in an irritated manner. My pleas fell on deaf ears.

So I took an N77 to Clapham instead - the drive perfectly happy with the bike - and another to Wimbledon, driver also happy and sanguine, and rode home.

To rise 6h later for NotCon, only to be told by [livejournal.com profile] flickgc while still munching my Shredded Wheat that it was sold out and I wouldn't get in. So I slumped brainlessly in front of my latest toy - a beige G3 Mac, kindly donated by [livejournal.com profile] autopope and [livejournal.com profile] feorag - thanks, guys! - transplanting bits from my old Mac and installing Mac OS X on it. I completely forgot about my alternative plans for visiting Crystal Palace or a return to Putney for pizza and natter, as I was sleep-deprived and vacuous.

Instead, I dragged myself up to Hoxton for the first London gig of my old mate Nic D's band Undying Legacy, which was most entertaining. There was also Living With Eating Disorders, Devilish Presley and Earth Loop Recall, and all were fine. For more, go read [livejournal.com profile] bootpunk's LJ. More long-lost mates such as [livejournal.com profile] djpsyche and [livejournal.com profile] sheridanwilde were there, too.

Not everything according to plan, but a fine weekend nonetheless.

Oh, and apparently, I am amused to find*...
