[Geek] New Linuxy goodness
Mar. 12th, 2004 01:48 pmI'm sure all the hardcore amongst you run Debian or Gentoo and sneer at consumer distros, but arguably the friendliest, Mandrake Linux, has just released version 10: the first consumer distro with kernel 2.6 and KDE 3.2. As ever, it's a free download. You can get ISO images by Bittorrent from here. With Bittorrent, the more people who download it, the faster it goes, so help me out here, folks, and go grab yourselves a copy! ;¬) It's a 2GB file containing 3 ISOs.
EDIT: in answer to a query, yes, this edition of Mandrake is totally free. It's based off Red Hat 7.x, I believe. The free version of Red Hat is now Fedora, broadly RH 10 or 9.1, but this is essentially a fork now and is quite separate from RHAS. Anecdotally, QA has suffered, too. SuSE can be installed by FTP for free, but you can't download ISOs. The geek distros - Debian, Gentoo, Slackware etc. - remain free for all.
