SPONSOR ME!
Sep. 30th, 2003 02:31 pmI'm going bald. No, really.
From the 24th to the 26th of October, I'll be at The Came And Shaved Us, a very silly sort-of SF convention in Dundalk in the the Republic of Ireland.
There, I will be having my head shaved for charity.
I've had long hair for about eight years or more now and most of you will not remember me with anything else. It's an identifying characteristic of mine, I'm told.
Well, not for long.
Why? Well, I've been muttering about it for ages, but it's
hawkida and
dougs who actually challenged me to do it at this convention. In Ireland in late autumn. Thanks, guys. (Donations of wooly hats also welcome. Black ones, preferably.) They will also be losing their locks. You can sponsor them, too, if you like - or if you're attending TCASU, you could have your head shaved, too!
I'm looking to raise some serious money from this - I'm hoping for at least £500 - for two good causes in which I have a direct personal interest. I'm not generally very humanitarian, so pay attention, this is worth it.
One is the British Epilepsy Foundation, in memory of my cousin Stuart Penfold, who died in March at the age of 27 from the complications of lifelong epilepsy. We hardly knew ye, Stu.
The other is Douglas House, a "respice" for young people. It's a hospice offering support to young adults with life-threatening diseases and their families. My mate Alastair Craig, AKA Hoopy Albo, lives there part of the time.
The money I raise goes 50:50 between the two of them.
So, whatever your feelings about these things, however skint you are, give me some money and you get the right to slap my bald bonce and make offensive comments about my beard. It's worth it. Money well spent.
On the flipside, if you really truly think that I shouldn't do this, then my mate Tony -
gummitch - is running a Save Liam's Locks campaign for me NOT to have my head shaved. If he raises more money than I do, then I get to keep the hair, but the charities get the money anyway.
Of course, if you're REALLY generous, then you might decide to give the money you've pledged either way. You still get to decide what happens. Vote with your wallets!
Comment here, or mail me, or write to me, or phone me, whatever you want; there are lots of ways to contact me in my Profile. If you want to save the locks, go talk to Tony!
EDIT: And if the SLL fund wins, then the beard goes anyway...
Please spread this around as widely as possible to anyone who knows me. I will be, so my apologies if you see it repeatedly. Give me money and I'll go away.
