Long time no update
Aug. 5th, 2003 02:07 amI suppose I should wibble about the weekend. But then, I haven't wibbled about last weekend yet.
So:
Fri: went for a run. Did about 5 laps this time, though my breathing was very rough. Must take my drugs more often. Then, off to my mate Vanessa's birthday dinner near Clapham Junction. Very pleasant, but alarming to meet a bunch of people I know through the CiX veggies' conference and discover they've picked a non-veggie restaurant and are all eating meat. Apparently the ostrich steak was very good. (Eeeeuw.)
Then off up to
corsetboy and
abbykatt's BBQ/party. Got the train from Clapham to Waterloo, ran to W. East, legged it down onto the train signboarded for Brockley... which then took me to Charing Cross. Bugger.
Train to London Bridge, then a half hour wait for a Brockley train. Arrive at about 1am. Is that fashionably late?
Party was dead good. Apply names to several faces and vice versa then almost instantly get appallingly trashed and forget most of them. Ah, well. (Contributions or volunteers to go "I met you!" very welcome.)
Discover alarming propensity for allegedly über goth babes to apparently keenly enjoy playing DDR. (Very badly.) I ascribe this to "Love Cats" being on the playlist of PS2 DDR. How predictable? Also watch same undergoing gruelling workout on exercise bike for nearly three whole seconds. Now I understand how she keeps her looks.
She's embalmed.
By 5.30am I was too and I fell over on a sofa.
11am, crawl to train, go home, sleep 2h to be woken at 2pm by
flickgc and told to attend the Beeblebears' Picnic at once.
Arrive in park for picnic at 6pm.
No-one else is there.
Call Flick. She is in the pub. Go to pub. Pub has No Beer. It does have Flick,
lushattic,
drplokta,
alexmc,
munquie and others, but No Beer. This is clearly an appalling situation so I go to the Silver Cross across the road where, oddly, there are lots more people, lots of beer, lots of room, and even food. It didn't used to be like this. When Robert Newman leads an excursion to the AgX it is clearly the End Times.
Who was there? Er. It all went a bit fuzzy.
hddod,
redbrown,
dougs,
reverendjim,
adela_terrell,
coxtrill,
daemongirl,
hawkida,
tobesv and
wag_9393, I think. Probably more. Shout if you're omitted. And lots of nonentities WANOLJ.
After about three trips across the road, I get them all to come over. Drunkenness ensues.
The vague plan next was to go to a Dodgy Nightclub with the aforementioned Vanessa and
unclereggie. However, Uncle Reggie has cried off (for tragic personal reasons I'll not go into here) so Flick and I go to
fluffydave and
sinnymaker's party instead.
Regrettably, I did manage to find an offlicense on the way that did sell real ale. Lots of it.
And I drank it all. And some of Dave's.
The party was wonderful. Put more faces to names, such as
silverfiligree, livejournals to names (such as
gothstevek) and got to know some people I'd not really spoken to before, such as
dathedi and
squiddity. Plus many of the usual imPure suspects such as
childeric,
zoo_music_girl,
meryc,
hsw and
incy. Apologies to those I didn't really get to talk to, such as
thamshere.
Left at about 4 in an appalling state. Utterly trousered.
The next morning was unpleasant. Am again woken again by Flick to discover that I really don't feel very well. Nonetheless, my body dragged itself off to
childeric and
swisstone's Historic Walking Tour of the City of London. My mind was unfortunately unable to attend, reporting when it later crawled home that it had spent the day hiding in an empty Fiddler's Elbow bottle in the bottom of Fluffy Dave's bin, where it was cold and dark and it liked it.
So I cannot tell you much of what we saw, but it was jolly interesting and highly informative.
They were almost all LJers but as my mind wasn't present I can't give you a list. (Phew.)I my body did get to chat a little to
headgardener who I've it's not spoken to for years, though.
And, predictably, it ended in a pub.
Where some of us stayed till we were thrown out. Oh, dear.
Top weekend. Must have been sober for several hours at a stretch there.
