Ten Ways to Make More Humane Open Source Software
by Jono DiCarlo

Excellent essay on software design, especially in open source.

Did you know that since Vista came out, Linux has doubled its market share on the desktop?

Oh yes! Riproaring success, eh?

Not so much. It's gone from 0.37% to 0.81%. Woohoo.

This essay explains a little bit of why that is.

I finally have the stolen laptop back. The clients' Samsung X60 that "Scroteboy", AKA Tony John Beasley, sometime of 71 Nimrod Road, Tooting, stole and sold to CashConverters in Streatham on my birthday last year, to feed his crack habit. I did not get my digital camera, binoculars or Playstation 2 back. I also didn't get my Sharp Zaurus, on indefinite load from [livejournal.com profile] sbisson, as Cash Convertors had already sold that, and it seems there's no right of reclaim of stolen property for such items.

I think I'd rather like Beasley's kidneys in recompense, please. And anything else I can sell on the black market: corneas, lungs, heart, liver, whatever. They're wasted on him.
