Along with LJ & emails & so on, Zoe posted her note on the CIX noticeboard, too, prompting a number of CIXen to look up her (somewhat dated) contact details in her résumé. Several of them contacted the Sussex police, who have tracked her down, and the message has been relayed that she's OK:

"I called the police when I read this, and they informed me that others had beaten me to it, and that mpsons@cix is ok and the situation is in hand."

But if anyone has any helpful suggestions for getting a very depressed young T/G type introduced to a sympathetic London crowd, I'd welcome them - because despite having half a dozen or more T/G friends these days, it's all still a bit strange to me & I don't really know how to handle it...

EDIT: now spoken with the 24h mental health line in Hampshire (thanks to [livejournal.com profile] arkady for the lead!) & given them what details I have - they're going to chase this with the Sussex /and/ Hants police & let me know what they can find out.

It seems that I'd got it ass-backwards. She is in Brighton, currently in the Royal Infirmary; Stephanie Taylor at the Hants mental health 24h hotline got the Hants police involved. They traced her address in Portsmouth but it was a shared house with 3 other, unrelated male names on the electoral roll.

So I gave them the Brighton address, which they chased down, and at gone 4 in the morning, they have contacted her mother (who insists on calling Zoe Tony and "he") and apparently Zoe was admitted to the hospital last night. They have no information about what she's done to herself, if anything, but she's in good hands now.

And now, after quite a lot of phone calls, I'm going to try to go to sleep...
