Jabber

Did you know LJ now does Jabber? This is a test post... All you have to do is add a Jabber account to your chat client (if you're using something with long trousers, like GAIM, Trillian or Adium), and give the JID as yourusername@livejournal.com and your LJ password and bosh. It automatically creates a LiveJournal group in your buddy list and populates it with all the people on your LJ friendslist who've also set it up. Cool! Anyone want to try messaging me? :-)

If you're still using separate IM programs, like AIM, MSN or Yahoo, do yourself a favour and get GAIM (if you run Linux or Windows) or Adium (if you're on Mac OS X) and consolidate all your accounts into one. It makes life much easier. If you want all that audio-visual stuff, well, for my money, use a phone, but failing that, get Skype. At least it works cross-platform, which is more than any of the others do!)
