Weekending

Since I spent a lot of time on trains last week, I have a largish writeup on Sweden coming Real Soon Now™, as soon as I can get it off my dying Psion. Meanwhile...

Splendid weekend up in Scotland with Caitriona. Stayed chez Freebairn courtesy of the kind and generous [livejournal.com profile] sneerpout, along with [livejournal.com profile] mr_tom and [livejournal.com profile] suaveswede, drank ale with [livejournal.com profile] bloodnok and generally missed almost all of Convivial. (I'm certainly not going to enumerate all the LJers there, there were loads of the buggers.) The bits we did get to were jolly good, though. Mainly the hanging-around-late-into-the-night-drinking parts.

Ms Pout was so knackered from the 9h drive up that she did even less of the con than we did, and they departed Mon back to the Smoke, so Caitriona, Anders and I headed for Edinburgh instead, as it's far more congenial than Glasgow. We were planning to stay with the mysterious [livejournal.com profile] green_amber but she was feeling a little under the weather so along with the Suave Swede we crashed at the home of official Famous Author [livejournal.com profile] autopope and [livejournal.com profile] feorag, with the former of whom I was allowed to do a fair amount of geeking. Nerdery about things like beer, planes and SF doesn't count, apparently, it's waxing nostalgic about computers of >2 decades ago that's antisocial or something. We got a wonderful guided tour of the alternative pubs, shops, pubs, eateries and pubs of Scotland's capital, and I'm almost tempted to move there.

I celebrated the tenth anniversary of my bike crash by having a meze dinner (booked under a name beginning L. E., tho' that person did not, alas, join us) and spending a very pleasant bank holiday eveningday's drinking with [livejournal.com profile] akicif and [livejournal.com profile] guybles and others, which could hardly be better, really. It wasn't technically the same day, but wotthehell, archie, wotthehell. And if you're mystified as to why I should celebrate such a thing, it's because I'm still here and in possession of all my extremities in more-or-less functional condition. That's well worth commemorating, I feel.

EDIT: oh, yes, and [livejournal.com profile] fluffcthulhu.

Which leads me to this weekend. Saturday and Sunday are filled, what with [livejournal.com profile] marypcb and [livejournal.com profile] sbisson's engagement party, [livejournal.com profile] mr_flay's birthday dinner and NotCon on Sunday. Friday night is looking dead, though. Any suggestions?

Oh, yes... And this: since it is now mere days away from One Year On since I escaped from the damnèd perdition of polyamory, I am considering yielding to the repeated urgings of several good friends and coming back to gothdom once more, at least on an experimental basis. Even though it means reneging on my new year's resolution and confronting Stuff™. Thoughts (or rants) welcome.
