A blatant plug
May. 12th, 2004 02:03 pm(But they're damned good)
My mate Andy's string sextet are doing another gig next month. I saw their performance there last year and, all bias aside, they really are excellent.
kjersti - a former classical clarinetist and pianist herself - was stunned by how good it was.
Here's the spiel from their flyer...

Recommended. It's a good small venue, too, so you get a close-up experience. All I get out of it is a pint and maybe a curry, if I'm lucky. :¬)
In other news: been to Stockholm. It was terrific. Good company, good beer, an entertaining party, visits to both "Rocks" and "the Cave Club" and a Czech beer festival and an afternoon walking around the park island of Djurgården in the spring sunshine. An excellent weekendandabit. Thanks to
suaveswede for putting me up and
khnark for enlivening things and providing both beer and Swedish goth chicks. As well as having a proper email program (Thunderbird, of course)(and half a dozen bottles of fine British ale), Anders is now on chat, by the way, so go check his userinfo page if you want to talk to him... :¬)
A week later, Plokta.con 3.0 in Newbury, as organized by the Plokta Cabal. Including Dr Flickta. As plugged on NTK, so it must be good! Great fun, good food, decent ale and a rare chance to natter to Guest of Honour Charlie "
autopope" Stross and
feorag and too many others to mention. Special mention to a rare appearance of proud (if sleep-deprived) new parents Sue and Guy Dawson (WANOLJ, AFAIK), with New Sprog. Shame I never got a chance to speak to Cory Doctorow of
boingboing_net, though.
A great little con, even Pirates' Night - except for those who failed totally to get into the spirit.
tamaranth even provided me for a charger for the little Sharp Zaurus SL5500 which
sbisson has kindly loaned me. I've spent too much time playing with this since. Not a great PDA, possibly the worst keyboard I've ever used (though
hawkida's Clié is a serious rival), but great fun, very flexible and a superb eBook reader (now showing: the forthcoming two Charles Stross novels. ;¬)). Don't suppose anyone has any spare SD or MM cards they could lend me, do they?
