One of the small pleasures of working in the field of IT journalism is that these days some of the elder statesmen, whose words I keenly devoured when I was a spotty little teen geek (as opposed to a crotchety big nearly-40 geek), are friends with whom I occasionally go for a pint.

Such as [livejournal.com profile] hunkymouse.

I have been known to moan about 802.11x wireless networking before. I use it, I install it, I support it, but I really absolutely loathe, detest and despise the technology. It's a shambles which should not have been released until it was a great deal more polished than it is just yet.

So it's good to read some of the reasons why - and why the fix, if any, both won't be coming soon and will bring fresh grief of its own. (Which is, if you haven't spotted the connection, by, um, "Hank Maus".) I believe that he means 54Mbps when he writes of 22, but otherwise, it seems bang on to me.
