Actually, it's not even our Nation, it's those chaps over in the Colonies.

Nonetheless, I do like this piece.

From Wired: Literacy Limps Into the Kill Zone. (Print-view link included for your reading convenience.)

In other news:
• Picocon was good fun as ever;
• Work is as busy as it's been in a long time, which is good, but leaves me little time for writing, here or anywhere else, though I did do a bit of a rework on Wikipedia's entry for Lake Baikal yesterday, and a more minor one on the Baikal Seal;
• I've learned to snowboard while visiting [livejournal.com profile] fintlewoodlewix, after a very rudimentary fashion, and hope to return to the slopes and do some more soon;
• I have finally given away most of the old Macs in my garage (my thanks to the inestimable [livejournal.com profile] dougs) and hope to get shot of some PCs soon. If you know anyone who might want a free machine, of the sluggish Pentium-1 variety, do please let me know. Available running Win95 (for a small consideration if you want it with apps, antivirus, firewall and so on) or Linux.
