Microsoft tells you what to read.

OK, not really, but Encarta's list of Cult C20 Novels is interesting.

Of them, I've read:
- The Lord of the Flies - for school English course. Hated it.
- Naked Lunch - part of. Gave up. Unreadable trash. Film was fun but nothing to do with it, really.
- Catch-22 - several times. A favourite of mine and a truly great book on several levels.
- Dune - disagree with their comments, but a deserved classic. Over-sequelised by FH himself, mind, let alone the utterly abominable Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson, neither of whom could write their way out of a wet paper bag.
- Slaughterhouse 5 - A fair bit of SF here! Not a Vonnegut fan, but have read a few. It has its moments but they are too few. It might have made a good short story.
- Trainspotting. Tried and gave up in '02. Impenetrable dialogue - and I'm good with accents - and writing about a deeply unpleasant subject. I'm amazed anyone gets through this; it cannot be a pleasant experience.
